Snow fun

Final total: 4 inches.

Today is a gorgeous day so we got out and enjoyed it a little. We took a nice walk down the street (except for dodging the morons who were driving around towing inner tubes and boogie boards with children on them). We frolicked with Vivian in the backyard:

Then we built our snow family:

The temperature is rising fast and I've been told Caretta's tail has already fallen off.

We didn't want our neighbors to miss out on our creativity so we made a little snow posse at the end of the driveway.

They should melt by the end of today, but if not, I'll have to run over them in the morning. Lisa finds this funny.

Update:

MORE snow?

Yup, we're getting more snow today. Luckily, it's Saturday and we don't have a thing planned. So we'll just sit here and watch it fall:

We planted our peas last weekend, but they don't mind the cold. Lisa likes to force germination by placing the peas in a plastic bag with a wet paper towel in the warm laundry room, so that's why they look so far along. When we planted them in the ground, they all had roots already, and some had green shoots up.

Although typically our garden is mostly sand, that lite stuff is the snow. So far, the soil hasn't looked too bad.

Seedlings are up! Our spinaches came up in a record 3 days. Crazy.

Do you remember Pigs In Space? It had a spin-off show that unfortunately flopped. I present "Cats In Sinks!":

Snow, seeds, stealing, and....bread

It is never very impressive, but it is still pretty exciting around here when we get snow. And when it sticks, well, that's cause for celebration. Or statewide shutdown for 2-3 days. Both Lisa and I had short days on Monday, which gave us plenty of time to sit around and watch the snow fall. It was really quite pretty:

Vivian loves the snow, and especially loves to eat it. She got to romp in it a little, but it unfortunately all melted by mid-day Tuesday.

It's hard to believe that was just a week ago, since today we got all our seed starting stuff out and planted our first of the spring seeds (spinach and leeks). We even got outside for a bit this evening to start working the soil. It feels so good to be out there again.

I know you don't believe us, but we are going to be very disciplined this year and only start one flat. We are growing a few new flowers that can all be direct sown, and we're attempting to really cut back on our veggies. We'll see what happens!

Those of you who know Vivian well know her affinity for stealing. Her usual targets are shoes, face wash (or lotion), and spaghetti.* Lately she's shown a fondness for the bag of kitty litter. She actually has to squeeze her head in the door of the closet where it is kept and drag it out, which makes it a fun challenge for her.

I love the look on her face -- it looks like she's guarding it, but Lisa tells me she was actually mid-sneeze when the photo was taken. Notice the other flotsam she has accumulated...

And finally, more delicious bread. Jen is letting us borrow her breadmaker and Lisa has been making a fresh loaf each week. Here is a little wheat loaf from last week:

Today she made some non-breadmaker bread, a white and a rosemary. We've already cut into the rosemary loaf -- Yummy!
