Off with your bulkhead

They always say things look worse before they look better....

The other day the hideous bulkhead came down. I hated how it never really matched the cabinets (it probably did back in 1872) and was a tad on the shiny side. They didn't even look like real wood. So, they've been torn out which unfortunately now just shows the dingy wall and ceiling it was hiding. But fear not, it will look so good when it all comes together.




Now we are working on building our new kitchen island. So far we have the base:

In order to put it all together, we need to have enough of the flooring down so we can start from the bottom up. A good chunk was laid today, but it is pretty slow going. It looks great though! Our flooring has a bit of a story so deserves a post all its own...
